Upload videos

You can upload videos to YouTube in a few easy steps. Below you can find the necessary instructions to upload your videos from a computer or from a mobile device.

Computer

To get started uploading videos on YouTube from your desktop, follow the steps below.

1 Sign into YouTube

2 Click the Upload button at the top of the page.

3 Before you start uploading the video you can chose the video privacy settings.

4 Select the video you'd like to upload from your computer. You can also record a video from your webcam, create a video slideshow or import a video from Google Photos.

5 As the video is uploading you can edit both the basic information and the advanced settings of the video, and decide if you want to notify subscribers (if you untick this option no communication will be shared with your subscribers). Partners will also be able to adjust their Monetization settings.

6 Click Publish to finish uploading a public video to YouTube. If you set the video privacy setting to Private or Unlisted, just click Done to finish the upload or click Share to privately share your video.

7 If you haven’t clicked Publish, your video won’t be viewable by other people. You can always publish your video at a later time in your Video Manager.

Once the upload is completed we will send you an email to notify you that your video is done uploading and processing. You can then forward that email to friends or family for easy sharing. If you prefer not to receive notification, you can opt out by visiting your email settings.

Android/IPad/IPhone

The easiest way to upload videos from an Android device is to use the YouTube app.

1 Sign in to YouTube.

2 Tap the Accounts tab and select My videos.

3 Tap the Upload icon at the top of the screen.

Privacy settings for your video

When you upload a video, by default it’s set as a "Public" video, which means that anybody can view it. You can easily change the privacy settings of your videos and manage who has access to viewing.

1. Go to your Video Manager.

2. Find the video you want to change, then click Edit.

3. In the "Privacy Settings" drop-down menu, choose your setting

* Public

* Unlisted

* Private

4. Click Save changes.

Manage video privacy

When you upload a video, by default it’s set as a "Public" video, which means that anybody can view it. You can manage the privacy settings and control who has access to view this content.

Private videos

A private video can only be seen by you and the users you select. The video won't appear on your channel or search results and will be invisible to other users. You can manage the users you want to share a private video with (this is the recomed mode of videos for scouts and guides).

1. Under the "Privacy Settings' drop-down menu, click Share.

2. Add names from your Contacts or the email addresses of the people with whom you’d like to share your video. They’ll need a Google account to view your video.

If you’ve never connected your channel with Google+ or confirmed your name on YouTube, you can't share private videos with other users. If you have private videos that you previously shared with users, they'll continue to be visible by them. You can't modify the list of users who are able to view your private video, except to remove all users' access to the video.

Unlisted videos

Note: Your YouTube account needs to be in good standing to be able to create unlisted videos.

Making a video unlisted means that anyone who has the link to the video can view it.Unlisted videos don't show to viewers in the Videos tab of your channel page. Unlisted videos don't show up in YouTube's search results unless someone adds your unlisted video to a public playlist.

To share an unlisted video: Share the link with the people who want to have access to it, and they’ll be able to see it.

Unlike private videos, the people you share the video with do not need a Google account to see the video. Anyone with the link can also re-share it in a number of ways, such as simply forwarding the link. If you don't want to allow others to re-share your video, make it private.

Shareing videos

* Share this video: This gives you a link that you can copy and paste somewhere else, like in an email message.

* Link to a specific part of the video: Before copying the link, select the Start at: checkbox if you want to share a particular part of the video. For example, if you want to the video to start at 2 minutes and 30 seconds, select the checkbox, then type “2:30” into the box.

* Social networks: Click one of the social network icons (e.g. Facebook, Twitter) to share the video there.

* Embed: This lets you show the video on a different site, like your own website or blog. Learn more about embedding videos.

* Email: YouTube will send an email to the email address(es) you enter. If the recipient doesn’t receive the video, ask them to check their spam folders, or add service@youtube.com to their address book and filter exception list.
